Incline Village, NV

Wonderful thing about travel is you can be surrounded by snow and mountain one week in Tahoe and the sun and surf in Mau`i the next and I was lucky enough to say that was exactly what I had experienced recently.

With enough rain this winter to finally get California out of the 8-year drought, this translated to a snowpack that should keep skiers happy through most of the Spring.  This year, my husband had skied in 3 different states, Bear Valley in the Central Sierras of CA with co-workers, Stevens Pass in the Cascade Mountains in Washington while I surrounded myself with the sights of Leavenworth and finally got to put his new ski rack to use with an overnight to Tahoe in Nevada.  South and North Tahoe definitely has its share of ski resorts to choose from but for a non-downhill skier like myself who is less incline to want to lose control to gravity, prefers snowshoeing and cross country.  However, I would take a pool over all of that any day.

With that in mind, Incline Village on the north eastern shores of Tahoe seemed like a good option with Hyatt - https://www.hyatt.com/en-US/hotel/nevada/hyatt-regency-lake-tahoe-resort-spa-and-casino/tvllt as
our home base.

Diamond Peak - https://www.diamondpeak.com/ lift tickets available to purchase right at the Hyatt and a complimentary ski shuttle included with the resort fee that takes you up to the entrance bypassing the parking lot and tram, you are on the slopes before you know it.

In the meantime, I can walk across the road to Mountain High Sandwiches for a hot tri-tip sammie

before coming back to the resort to lounge by the pool as I am waiting to check in.

Luckily my room was ready early

so I was able to don my swimsuit and jump into the heated pool from the inside

where it is still warm and swim out to the view of the snowcapped mountains, even leaving me with enough time to shower and walk down to their private beach

sitting on their swing bench

by the firepit.

My hour there was so quiet and serene on a Sunday afternoon with only a handful of other guests

that I even contemplated getting another sandwich and just having dinner down there watching the sun set.

But the Hula Pie won out and we ventured to Jake’s at Tahoe City for happy hour and that Hula Pie.

With the s’mores kit that was included in the $37 resort fee, we could not resist venturing down to the fire pit for dessert #2 later on in the evening.

Although skies were overcast with a slight drizzle the next morning, we still walked down to the beach for another hour before checking out.  Being Monday, it was even quieter than the day before, enabling us to snag one of the few Adirondack chairs placed on the sand overlooking the glassy lake, giving us the best of both worlds.
