in the mornin’ sun… With mild spring
like temperatures this past week alone, blue skies, and less of a crowd post Valentine’s/President’s
Day weekend, late February/early March is the perfect time to visit Pier 39 and
this year even more than ever.
Tulip Mania
An
annual event to celebrate a symbol of spring, 39,000 bulbs of tulips planted
throughout both levels during the holiday season is now in full bloom for enjoyment.
With early, mid-season, and late blooms, it is estimated to be available for you to feast your eyes through mid-March, weather permitting.

30th Anniversary of Sea Lions at the Pier
2020
also marks 30 years of those sea lions barking up a storm at the pier. Arriving shortly after the Loma Prieta Earthquake
of 1989, they starting taking over the K-dock by early 1990 which has now been
their home for 30 years, peaking at 1701 residents in 2009. Driven by food supply however, I remember an
uncertain year or two where there were barely any as they had to migrate away for
that food, a reminder that nothing is permanent. Fortunately, they returned home to continue
entertaining locals and tourists of all ages with their antics and we can now
celebrate their 30 years at the Pier.
In
commemoration of those 30 years, 30 6 ft tall sea lion statues painted by local
Bay Area artists will be gracing not only Pier 39 but around the city for the year.
In
the meantime, I cannot think of anything better than being perfectly content
just Sittin on the dock of the Bay, Wastin’ time…
